Clinical Services (ECSS)
School Social Workers
ECSS employs professional social workers who work closely with school personnel, parents and students to ensure that the social emotional needs of students are being met in both the school and home environment. As collaborative team members school social workers are highly trained to provide clinical intervention and group and community advocacy. They work with students with social and emotional difficulties and their parents. The goal of school social work intervention is to support students in maximizing their educational potential.
School Psychologists
ECSS employs school psychologists who help students to succeed academically, socially and emotionally. They collaborate with school staff, parents and other professionals to create safe, healthy and supportive learning environments. School psychologists must complete a minimum of a Master’s degree which emphasizes child development, school organization, learning styles and processes, behaviour, motivation, mental health and effective teaching practices for a wide range of learners.
School Speech/Language Pathologists
ECSS employs speech language pathologists, who focus on development, function and differences in communication. While the primary focus of the SLP is on oral communication, including language, articulation, voice and fluency of speech, they also consult with school staff, parents and other professionals regarding academic and social skills of students and how oral language affects school performance. SLPs also provide support to students who are not able to communicate verbally, and who may need alternative methods of communication such as speech generating devices. SLPs are trained at a minimum of a Masters degree.
